About the project

The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is the world’s largest and most powerful particle accelerator. It first started up on 10 September 2008, and remains the latest addition to CERN’s accelerator complex. The LHC consists of a 27-kilometre ring of superconducting magnets with a number of accelerating structures to boost the energy of the particles along the way.

This prestigious scientific research project enabled us to develop our formative multi axis machining skillset whilst manufacturing parts for the C.E.R.N Large Hadron Collider. The standout engineering challenges noted were during the manufacturing process of the 360mm diameter stainless steel inertia tubes that varied in lengths from 3 metres to 7.7 metres and weighed up to 5 tonnes once assembled.
